Bathe & Beam is a UK specialist in bathroom lighting. Downlights, ceiling and wall lights, pendants, illuminated mirrors and mirror cabinets, mirror lights, shaver sockets, extractor fans with lighting, drivers, dimmers and lamps — and nothing that isn't for a bathroom.
We built the shop around one question, because it is the question that decides whether a fitting can go where you want it: which zone? A bathroom is divided into zones by BS 7671, and each zone demands a minimum ingress protection rating. Most lighting retailers bury that in a spec table at the bottom of the page, if they mention it at all. We put the zone and the IP rating at the top of every product page, and we let you browse the entire catalogue by zone before you ever look at a product type.
What we publish on every listing
- Zone suitability — zone 0, 1, 2, or outside the zones, stated plainly.
- IP rating — IP20, IP44, IP65, IP67, with what it actually protects against.
- Colour rendering (CRI) — because a bathroom is where people look at their own face, and CRI 80 makes skin look grey.
- Colour temperature in kelvin, and whether it is fixed, selectable, tunable or dim-to-warm.
- Lumens and beam angle, so you can work out whether four downlights is enough or too many.
- Fire rating — whether the downlight is rated to BS 476 Part 21, and for how long.
- Dimming — what protocol, which dimmers it is tested with, and the minimum load.
The eleven products we tell you not to buy
Eleven items in this catalogue are IP20. They may not lawfully go in any bathroom zone. We stock them anyway, in a collection called Not For A Bathroom Zone, because a cloakroom with no bath and no shower has no zones at all, and for that room they are exactly right. A shop that will tell you what it can't sell you for a job is the one you come back to for the job it can.
