mirror-mounting-bracket-set
Mirror Mounting Bracket Set

A spare part: brackets with a levelling screw, for hanging a mirror straight on a wall that is not.

Bathroom lighting is the one part of a house where getting it wrong is a safety matter rather than a taste matter, and it is sold almost entirely on photographs. Every listing here states the zone the fitting may be installed in, the IP rating with both digits explained, the colour rendering index, the lumen output and the efficacy in lumens per circuit watt. If a fitting is not suitable above a bath we say so on the page you are buying it from. If a mirror is backlit and will not light your face, we say that too.

Specification

Zone: outside the zones only, which means more than 600mm from the edge of a bath or shower and more than 600mm from a basin tap. We would still fit an IP44 product in a bathroom, and this one is, but the regulations do not require it here, except where the part is itself rated, which is stated on the pack

IP rating: stated on the pack for every sealed part. A gasket or a connector carries the rating of the assembly it completes, which is why a perished gasket takes a zone 1 fitting out of compliance

Dimensions: as described, and the pack quantity is in the title where it matters

Light output: not applicable to a part

Colour temperature: not applicable

Colour rendering: not applicable

Dimming: not applicable

Electrical: not applicable unless the part carries a current, and where it does the rating is on the pack

Fire rating: stated on the pack. The fire hood is tested to BS 476 Part 21 for 30, 60 and 90 minutes

Standards: BS EN 60598 where the part forms a luminaire, BS EN 60529 for the IP rated parts, UKCA and CE marked

Weight: approximately 0.50 kilograms

Guarantee: two years

Availability: every part is stocked for ten years from the date a fitting is discontinued

Compatibility: send us a photograph of the part you are replacing and we will confirm before you order

Why we list these: a bathroom fitting is a sealed assembly and the seal is the consumable. Selling gaskets is cheaper for you than selling fittings and it is the reason people come back

Trade: available on account, and we will put a spares kit together for a specific job

What arrives

the parts as described

instructions where fitting is not obvious

the pack rating card where the part is IP rated

Installation

Follow the instructions on the pack. On any gasket, the surface under it has to be clean and dry, because a gasket compressed onto a speck of plaster leaks for the rest of its life.

Choosing between this and the alternatives

An IP rating is a property of an assembly, not of a fitting, and the part that expires is the gasket. A ten year old IP65 downlight with a hardened gasket is not IP65 any more, and it is sitting above a shower. Replacing gaskets is a twenty minute job and about eighteen pounds, and nobody in this trade tells you to do it because there is no money in it.
